My beautiful, wonderful, kind niece Kim lost her husband in a five car pileup on Monday. A woman went into a diabetic coma, which caused her leg to stiffen and press on the gas pedal. She was going around 70 miles an hour when she struck four cars that were stopped at a light. Ryan was the rear car and received the greatest impact. It is so hard to understand these type of tragedies. But a faith in eternal life and our ability to see our loved ones again helps. I love the quote by President Russell M. Nelson, "The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life."
Kim's favorite colors are white, black, and cream. I wouldn't usually make a sympathy card with these colors, but it turned out pretty. I added touches of soft pink. I started with green leaves, but they were too stark against the soft, muted colors. Thanks to my sister Julie's recommendation I changed them to gray, with a hint of green, and liked it much better.
I stamped the image on Neenah Classic Crest 80# Solar White Cardstock with Memento London Fog Ink and left the image in the MISTI. The image was colored with Copic Markers and then stamped again with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed silver. It was cut out using the coordinating die. The die was used to cut some sticky back foam and the two were adhered together by removing the paper backing.
The sentiment was cut from silver mirror cardstock and adhered to sticky back foam cut with the same die. Small pieces of foam were removed where the word rested on the flower image. A secondary sentiment was stamped on white, heat embossed silver, and cut into a flag border with a Pink & Main Sentiment Strip and adhered over the bottom of sentiment die.
