Happy Birthday Shaker Balloons for Andres

We have a young man at church who is turning fifteen. His favorite colors are red and black. Since I've heard from other young men who have received shaker cards for their birthdays how much they like them, I decided to make Andres a double balloon shaker card.

The balloon shaker outline was cut from red cardstock. The balloon was then traced onto acetate, cut out with scissors, and adhered to the back of the outline with dotliner adhesive. The two balloons were overlapped and adhered together with liquid glue. The balloons were then traced onto another piece of red cardstock to create a backer for the balloons shaker. Waffle Flower Foam Strips were added to the back of the balloons and black and red seed beads were added to the center wells of the balloons. The backing on the foam strips was removed and the red balloon backer was adhered in place. Black and white baker's twine was added to the bottom of the balloons for strings.

I went through my black and white cardstock and decided on this black and white plaid. It was cut down with a stitched rectangle die. The sentiment shadow was cut from red cardstock and the sentiment from black. They were adhered together with liquid glue. The balloons and sentiment were laid on the plaid background to determine placement. The balloons were adhered in place with liquid glue. Foam strips were added to the back of the sentiment shadow, leaving openings where it overlapped the balloon strings.

The plaid balloon panel was adhered to the top of an A2 cardbase with a combination of liquid glue and dotliner adhesives. At the last minute I decided to add some red confetti pieces around the balloons. I cut them from a scrap of red cardstock and added shimmer pen to the front before adhering them in place with liquid glue. The shimmer pen was also used on the black letters of the sentiment.
