Happy Birthday Hot Stuff

I have a grandson who is a senior in high school and turning eighteen next week. He loves football, but I've used that theme many times for his birthday cards. This time I wanted something a little different. He is a good looking young man, with a wonderful personality. I decided to used candles and the theme of "Hot Stuff."

Matt's favorite colors are blue and green. I pulled out some scraps of cardstock and cut the candles from Elizabeth Crafts Birthday Candles Dies from the scraps, as well as from Darice Sticky Back Foam. I also cut the flames from gold glitter cardstock and adhered them in place with liquid glue. I used a white gel pen on the wicks.

I added shading to the candles with Copic Markers and removed the backing from the foam tape and adhered to colored candles to the foam. This is a quick and easy way to add dimension.

I used the Silhouette Cameo to cut out the main sentiment from a scrap of medium blue cardstock four times and adhered them together with liquid glue. I also stamped the secondary greeting with VersaMark Ink onto a scrap of the darker green cardstock and heat embossed it white. It was cut down using a Pink and Main Sentiment Strip. I wanted some fire behind the sentiments that would make them pop on the card. I found something in the Silhouette store and modified it a bit to be able to be large enough for the sentiments. It too was cut from gold glitter cardstock.

To add some visual interest behind the candles and sentiments a rectangle of white cardstock was cut down using a stitched rectangle die and then run through the Spellbinders Platinum with the Cuttlebug Happy Birthday Embossing Folder. It was matted with a scrap of the darker blue cardstock and the two were adhered together with liquid glue. The candles and sentiment were adhered in place with the same liquid glue. The focal image panel was adhered to a top folding A2 cardbase and the card was done.
