Foiled Cupcake Time to Celebrate You

I spent one whole day last week taking my background dies and some of my birthday dies and foiled them gold. I love the subtle background that is given to the original foiling. I haven't used the foil waste backgrounds yet, but they are gorgeous as well. I use the Pink Fresh Studio Hot Foil Plate. Since I have begun using this solid plate I have been successful in using the leftover foil.

For this card I used My Favorite Things Swiss Dots Background Die. The foiled background was cut down using a stitched rectangle die. Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape was added to the back and it was adhered to a top folding white cardbase with liquid glue.

I foiled the My Favorite Things Cupcakes and Sprinkles. Since the edges of the die are used to foil, if you want the image cut out you need to fussy cut yourself. You could also foil the dies in a panel and have a single layer card, but if you want dimension you will need to fussy cut.

Before fussy cutting the images they were ink blended in a gradient with pink Distress Oxide Inks. The ink on the foil was wiped away with a paper towel. The cupcake lining and frosting were adhered together with a thin strip of liquid glue. I used a craft knife to cut a slit in the frosting to place the candle, but in times past I've also glue it behind.

When I foil it is cutdown to a size just larger than the die. This leaves small strips of leftover foil. I used those strips to foil sentiment. I foil a lot of sentiment at the same time and cut them into strips and have them in a container to use on future cards. For this cards I used the "Time to Celebrate" sentiment. When I went to place it on the foiled background it was lovely, but it seemed to fade into the background, so I ink blended it with two of the pink oxide inks used on the cupcake.

Foam tape was added to the back of the cupcake and the sentiment strip. At first I planned to to just adhere the cupcake and sentiment, but there was enough room on the card to add the word "you." I decided to use this lovely scripty die from Simon Says Stamp. It was cut from gold mirror cardstock and again from sticky back foam to add dimension. I also decided to use the mirror cardstock to add sprinkles to the frosting. All the elements of the card were adhered in place by removing the backing paper on the foam tape and with liquid glue.
