Diamond Tile Happy Birthday Balloon

This is another birthday card made with only patterned paper and die cuts.

This time I decided to use the patterned paper as a background. A rectangle of the balloon paper was cut using the Memory Box Matinee Rectangle. It was adhered to a top folding cardbase using dotliner adhesive.

There are a lot of great colors in the patterned paper, I decided to use the teal blue. A larger stitched balloon was cut from Gina K. Designs Tranquil Teal Cardstock. The Penny Black sentiment was also cut from this sentiment.

When I laid these elements on the background paper they got a little lost, so I scanned the die cuts and pulled the images into the Silhouette Cameo software and created an offset/shadow from white cardstock. The sentiment and balloon were adhered to the shadow with dotliner adhesive. Darice Sticky Back Foam was cut using the dies and added to the back by removing the protective paper. This added some visual depth to the cutouts.

White metallic thread was tied around the bottom of the balloon. The balloon was adhered in place with liquid glue and the string was pulled to the back of the patterned paper rectangle and held in place with some Scotch Tape. The sentiment was then adhered over string and below the balloon with liquid glue.

I felt that the teal cardstock looked flat, so I added shading to the bottom of the words and the balloon with Copic Markers. That was better, but it still needed a little something more, so I pulled out a Wink of Stella Clear Sparkle Pen and covered the surface of the teal cardstock. I liked the way it look on the sentiment, but I hated it on the balloon, so I cut another balloon from teal cardstock. This time I ink blended shading to the bottom of the balloon and adhered it over the previous balloon with liquid glue.

I just didn't like the way the balloon looked. I had recently purchased a Retro Diamonds Stencil, which was sitting on my desk to be put away, and I wondered how it would look on the balloon. I had used some blue inks to shade the bottom of the balloon and used those same inks to ink blend over the stencil. I love the way it turned out. Finally the card was done.
