Celebrate Layered Cake Surprise

This is the last die set I purchased from Spellbinders Sweet Street by Tina Smith. This die create a layered cake that is only revealed when you pull on the candle.

I pulled out Simple Stores Vintage Bliss Paper Pad and picked different patterned paper for the layers of the cake. The largest and smallest are the same pattern, just cutting from different places.

When you cut the layers of the cake the bottom two layers have small slits that allow the next layer to be inserted. I recommend that you watch the YouTube video by Tina which shows details on how to assemble the cake. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pB7-bUzc0I)

I reinforced around the slits by adding a thin strip of cardstock to the top back of the slit. The cnadle was assembled with the pale pink used for the frosting and the patterned pink used for the middle layer of the cake. The flame was cut from gold glitter cardstock. The layers were adhered together with liquid glue, leaving an opening between the front and back layers of the candle to adhere it to the top layer of the cake. The word "pull" was stamped with white pigment ink. The frosting cut from a scrap of pale pink cardstock and ink blended on the sides with Distress Oxide Spun Sugar. It was adhered to the bottom layer of the cake with thin strips of foam tape on the side and bottom. The sentiment was stamped with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed gold. A secondary sentiment was stamped on the middle layer of the cake with VersaMark and gold embossing powder as well.

Once you have the pieces of the cake assembled you add thin strips of foam tape to the bottom and side of the base case layer, being sure that you do not obstruct the movement of the top two layers. I wanted to add some pretty visual interest behind the cake so I cut a rectangle of ivory cardstock with a stitched rectangle and dry embossed it with the Darice Flower Frenzy Embossing Folder. It was adhered to a top folding cardbase and the cake was adhered in place by removing the release paper on the foam strips.

To decorate my cake I used the flowers from the Party Cupcake Pocket. I used the pink patterned paper used for the middle layer of the cake and die cut the flower centers from gold glitter cardstock. Three flowers were added to the bottom right and two to the top left of the main cake layer and the card was done.
