Black and Yellow Sweet Wishes Cupcake

This is the card that I made using the leftover rectangle from the previous card. It was definitely one of those cards that when through a lot of changes.

I first started by trying to find a sentiment that would work with the cupcake negative space in the lower right of the card. I finally settled on Penny Black's Sweet Wishes. I die cut the sentiment from the rectangle and then adhered some Doodlebug Designs Kraft in Color yellow honeycomb cardstock. It had no pizzazz, so I decided to fill the negative space with black cutout sentiment and cupcake. It was better, but it still lacked interest, so I ink blended the edges. That was a little better, but it still wasn't a card that I would want to give to someone, so I added some Ranger Crystal Stickles the the sentiment and cupcake and matted the rectangle with black cardstock. That was a little better. I decided to add another layer of rectangle behind the smaller, black matted rectangle. This too was better, but still too stark and flat. After the stickles was dry I finally decided to use a background stamp on the rectangle both rectangles. I adhered the smaller rectangle where I wanted it with a little repositionable tape and stamped the rectangles. It worked great on the small rectangle, but was spotty on the larger. The great thing about the MISTI is that I could remove the small rectangle and stamped the larger one again.

It was not time to assemble the card. I added a mat of black cardstock to the larger rectangle and adhered it to a top folding cardbase. The smaller rectangle was adhered using Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape. The card was much better, but there was a lot of open space between the sentiment and the cupcake, so I pulled out some Martha Stewart Onyx Black Confetti and scattered it all over the small rectangle. Finally the card was something I would send out to someone.

I took pictures of the card, but I just didn't like the black cupcake. So I stamped it again on a scrap of white cardstock with the same yellow ink used for the background stamp and colored it a little with Copic Markers and adhered it over the black cupcake. You'll have to let me know which you like best.
